It’s cool to be a geek – discovering click boards™

The popularity of the mikroBUS™ standard is growing like one of those huge tidal waves when they are gaining momentum. Right now we are keeping track of the people and places it reaches, but pretty soon it’s going to be everywhere.

Digi-Key Electronics has a series called “Another Geek Moment” and one of their latest videos is dedicated to our click boards™.

It’s great to see how more and more people are discovering the advantages of the standard.

Like Joey, from Digi-Key Electronics said: “The nice thing about these boards is that absolutely everything is standardized – the shape, the size, down to the pinout, and the different communication protocols that they use.

Add the mikroBUS™ socket to your design

Don’t forget that you can add the mikroBUS™ socket to your PCB design. Just make sure you clearly mark it on the silkscreen with our logo.

BUCK click – input voltage range up to 40V

Buck regulators, or step-down switching regulators, or DC-to-DC power regulators are what brings the voltage down to a level you need. Our new product, BUCK click, does exactly that.

BUCK click

BUCK click is a buck switching regulator that accepts a wide input voltage range (up to 40V) and steps it down to 3.3V or 5V. The click carries the LT3976 40V, 5A, 2MHz step-down switching regulator with 3.3µA quiescent current. BUCK click communicates with the target microcontroller over the following pins on the mikroBUS™ line: PWM, INT, RS, CS.

When all the usual conditions and proper cooling are met BUCK click can supply up to 5A of load current.

NXP boards that support mikroBUS™

As the mikroBUS™ socket gets more popular, so does the number of development boards that support it. This Friday we decided to focus on the ones by NXP.

We already collaborated with NXP on Hexiwear, and future collaboration always seemed like a natural next step.

Right now there are over 30 third party development boards that support our mikroBUS™ socket. To no one’s surprise, the list grows every day. The convenience and practicality of this standard are obvious to anyone that encounters it.

NXP i.Mx7 Dual SABRE board

The i.Mx7 Dual SABRE board is based on i.MX7Dual applications processor, utilizing both the ARM® Cortex®-A7 and Cortex®-M4 cores with enhanced security and power optimization.

WaRP7 board

The WaRP7 has one mikroBUS™ socket on the back. It’s small and sleek, and it consists of the main board and a daughter card. The main board is based on the NXP® i.MX 7Solo applications processor.

Modular Edge Platform

The Modular Edge Platform is a Volansys multi-module compatible end node, that NXP uses in its Modular IoT Gateway kit. This compatible board has two mikroBUS™ sockets.

This board is targeted for multiple use cases in various segments of IoT such as Smart Home, Buildings, and Industries by connecting and communicating.

More than 300 click boards™

As you already know, our click board™ range is constantly expanding. We have a click board™ for any functionality that might come to mind. For example, take the sensor click range – we have everything from temperature and humidity sensors, to gyroscopes, light detectors, proximity sensors, altitude, alcohol, and heart rate sensors.

Add mikroBUS™ to your board

Of course, you can add the mikroBUS™ socket to your design. As long as you adhere to the standard specifications. So make sure you mark the silkscreen with the mikroBUS™ logo.
